International Admissions Process

English Proficiency Requirements
Since doctoral seminars involve regular student discussion, it is expected that international students have the requisite ability with spoken English to be a contributing member of such discussions. You are required to display English proficiency before being admitted into the graduate programs at Biola University. You are required to submit standardized test scores (TOEFL) for application to Biola.
TOEFL 100 IBT
The doctoral program in Educational Studies also requires a score of 4.0 or above on the Test for Written English (TWE). Preference in admission will be given to applicants with TOEFL scores of 600 paper / 250 computer or over, and 4.0 or over on the TWE, or at least 100 on the TOEFL IBT, with minimum scores for the four sections as follows: Writing (22), Reading (26), Speaking (26), Listening (26).

International Student Admission Requirements
- Biola University accepts international student applications only for the fall semester, with the exception of F-1 transfers, Doctor of Ministry, and modular programs.
- You must have the equivalent of a bachelor's degree from an accredited, recognized institution.
- All admissions items must be received by June 1st prior to the fall semester for which one is applying.*
Before You Begin Your Application
A Pre-application must be completed no later than February 1 for preferred consideration. The pre-application must be approved by the Graduate Admissions office before you begin your application. You will be notified of approval within 2-3 weeks after submitting the completed pre-application. The pre-application is comprised of information regarding your Christian testimony, academic background, English proficiency (TOEFL), and financial resources as part of your application.
*Please note that some programs have earlier application deadlines.
Attention: Any application for ON LINE (TESOL or School of Education) programs, extension centers (such as Kiev, or Chaing Mai), or if you hold a visa other than an F1, then the pre application is NOT necessary; therefore you can move forward to the full application.
