Remain in me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me. I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, he bears much fruit for apart from me, you can do nothing...
– John 15:4-5
The Institute for Spiritual Formation (ISF) at Talbot School of Theology and Biola University is a community of faculty and students dedicated to deepening their experience of the New Covenant life in the Spirit on the basis of the finished work of Christ on the Cross. It is a community intent upon the life of prayer, openness to God's will in all things, desiring only what God by the Spirit would provide, and allowing His life to penetrate and fill our very own for the sake of love.
It is out of this community that the Institute desires to prepare and send into the Church those who are called to minister by helping others discern and respond to the work of Christ in their lives for the purpose of spiritual growth and healing.
Thus, the vision of ISF involves fostering:
A seminary education intent upon a life of knowledge and prayer, of openness to the Scriptures and the Living Word Himself
A curriculum that moves students to know God and themselves more deeply
A community living honestly before God and one another in truth
An opportunity for training to mend souls by the loving power of the Holy Spirit
