Commencement Speaker
George Verwer
Biola University is pleased to announce that George Verwer, founder and former International Director of Operation Mobilisation, will be the speaker for the 2009 Spring Commencement services.
At 16, George came to Christ while attending a Jack Wyrtzen meeting, during which Billy Graham spoke in Madison Square Garden. From then on he promised God that he would love him, know him and commune with him- a promise which grew into a desire to share the message of salvation on a global scale.
Operation Mobilisation began in 1961 while George and his wife, Drena, were in Span and focuses on evangelism, discipleship training and church planting around the world. What started as one man’s passion for Christ to be the center of his life and the center of the lives of all those he meets has certainly grown into a ministry of monumental proportions. Operation Mobilisation now has two ships and over 4,000 people working in over 80 countries to share the message of the gospel.
Mr. Verwer is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute. In August 2003, George handed over his leadership of Operation Mobilisation and is now involved full-time with Special Projects Ministries.
