Christianity Today Features Biola Program in New York

New center offers seminary training for Messianic Jews

In its September 2010 issue, Christianity Today features a three-page article about the Charles L. Feinberg Center for Messianic Jewish Studies, an extension program of Biola University’s Talbot School of Theology.

The article, “A Ministry Grows in Brooklyn” also features Mitch Glaser (M.Div. ’78), president of Chosen People Ministries, the Messianic Jewish organization that partnered with Talbot in 2007 to create the Feinberg Center.

The Christianity Today article provides background history on the growing Messianic Jewish movement both in America and across the world, giving context to the ministry efforts of Glaser (who worked for 25 years with the organization Jews for Jesus before becoming president of Chosen People in 1997) that led to the collaboration with Talbot to create the Feinberg Center in New York City — the “Jewish capital of North America,” according to Glaser.

Named after Talbot’s founding dean, Charles Feinberg, the Feinberg Center offers a full M.Div. degree program with a focus on providing Messianic leaders with theological foundations and an understanding of Jewish history, culture and ministry.

Currently located in Manhattan, the center has plans to relocate to a remodeled 11,000-square-foot building in the heart of Orthodox Brooklyn, where Chosen People Ministries had its start.

“It is clear to me that God is calling us to be a witness in one of the most religious Jewish neighborhoods in the world,” Glaser told Christianity Today.

In 2009, Christianity Today honored Glaser’s book, To The Jew First: The Case for Jewish Evangelism in Scripture and History, with an Award of Merit in its annual book awards.
