Alumni Focus

by Rick Bee

I'm often asked at alumni chapter meetings about the role of the alumni association and how it relates to Talbot's programs. I'm pleased to report that the University alumni board is working hard in several areas of service that will have a significant impact on you as Talbot alumni.

Of course the alumni association's benefits program is available to all Talbot alumni. Benefits include numerous on-campus discounts and access including the bookstore, counseling services, library access, campus parking, and alumni rates for events, seminars, and activities. We know that one of the biggest challenges for small ministries is health insurance, so the association now provides discounted medical insurance for our members, and discounts to both local and national programs for travel, vacations and services. If you would like information on any of the association benefits, you can contact us through the Biola web site at

The Biola alumni web site contains information on career search, resume preparation, and career counseling. The Talbot site offers both ministry employment opportunities and a search service for Talbot alumni who feel that God is calling them to a change of ministry location. This web-based service, provided through Talbot's Placement Office under the leadership of Megan Gibson, provides easy access for pastors or church leaders to list available positions, and to alumni to search for available openings. It is available at

For Talbot alumni looking to get involved and give back through volunteer service to the seminary, we are creating a Talbot alumni and friends board that will work closely with the seminary leadership to create services that best meet alumni needs. Talbot alumni have unique challenges, as a life given over to ministry can often mean a price for family, finances, and friends. The seminary's commitment to you, in both service and support, does not end at your graduation. Instead, through the alumni department, the Talbot alumni and friends board, and Talbot Support Ministries led by Mick and Rolane Boersma, we are seeking to partner with you throughout your ministry.

The Talbot alumni and friends board will help set the direction of the Talbot alumni service programs, provide counsel and encouragement for the improvement of all Talbot alumni efforts, and work closely with Talbot leadership as the seminary seeks to grow in its ministry to students and alumni around the world. If you have an interest in serving in this way, please contact me at the university or by email at . We look forward to this new leadership group, and meeting the volunteers that will serve all Talbot alumni. May God continue to bless you and your work as you seek to serve Him in all you do.
